February 3rd was a busy day for the Hands Off HRI Campaign, as reported by the Examiner we sent approximately 50 campaigners down to London to support the National Demonstration NHS In Crisis – Fix It Now! called jointly by Peoples Assembly and Health Campaigns Together.

Our resident artist and loudhailer expert Mac Andrassy spoke to the crowds in London atop an open top double decker bus, along with Colne Valley MP Thelma Walker!

Alongside the London Demo, Health Campaigns Together encouraged those unable to attend London to gather outside their own local hospitals, resulting in a further 54 local demonstrations across the UK, from Devon and Cornwall, to Chorley, Liverpool, Dewsbury, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Sheffield, Oxford, Manchester and Tyneside.

Meanwhile in Huddersfield, over 100 campaigners gathered outside Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with our own local demonstration in support of the National.

Joined by local councillors  Judith Hughes, Andrew Cooper, Nicola Turner, Cahal Burke, Mohan Sokhal  Unison and Hands off HRI Acting Secretary Nat Ratcliffe, Youth For HRI campaigner Joshua Smith who all spoke of their support in our aims to save Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.  Mike Forster – Chair – read out an email of support from local conservative party leader David Hall who also stated that he didn’t feel the NHS was at risk of privatisation or indeed in crisis.

Campaigners were delighted and surprised to welcome Dewsbury MP Paula Sherriff to the demonstration who spoke of her thirteen years in the NHS prior to becoming an MP and avowed to continue to apply pressure on Jeremy Hunt to supply the date he will visit Kirklees to speak with campaigners.

Mike Forster spoke of the busy calendar of events we have for this year – for more information please see events on this website.

The weather may have been wintry and cold but these hardy campaigners will not stop until our local NHS services are safe.
